BREATHING UNDERWATER

The series is a symbolism of how our nature can be affected by societies constraints and cultures. Humans are born to be social creatures, we typically thrive in relationships and enjoy being surrounded by people. However, sometimes due to social constraints we would rather withdraw into solitude and assert that we desire more of it than is available or even possible. Sometimes we thrive to set ourselves free without concerns of social rules and obligations and with no need to please or impress anyone else. The underwater experience in my work represents these circumstances that are not natural to the human body and where our bodies cannot usually survive, which embodies the experience of being socially and culturally constrained. While the body seems to be at ease and calm on the surface, it's certainly struggling to breathe and be independent of the building heavy burden. Through my work I am exploring the connection between our bodies and water through the changes it has to go through such as in its forms, patterns, colors and shapes, in the same way we have to go through changes to fit the mould of societies expectation or decide to break free from it.
